This evening, FOX joined NBC in announcing early pickups for some of the many pilots they are currently reviewing to air. Today, they have given series orders to the single-camera comedies The Goodwin Games, Ben & Kate and The Mindy Project and to the drama pilots, The Mob Doctor and The Following.
Ben & Kate (formerly Ben Fox is My Manny) stars Dakota Johnson as a single mother who gets an assist from her brother (Nat Fason) who moves in with her to help raise her baby. Lucy Punch, Maggie Jones and Echo Kellum co-star. Dana Fox penned the semi-autobiographic pilot and will executive produce alongside Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope.
The Goodwin Games comes from How I Met Your Mother scribes Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Chris Harris, and stars Becki Newton, Scott Foley and Jake Lacy as siblings who must reconnect in order to inherit their late father's fortune - as long as they follow his terms. Felisha Terrell and Melissa Tang co-star.
In The Mindy Project, The Office's Mindy Kaling stars as a young Bridget Jones-type doctor as she tries to navigate her personal and professional life. Ed Weeks, Chris Messina, Anna Camp, Zoe Jarmon and Dana DeLorenzo co-star. Kaling, BJ Novak and Howard Klein will executive produce. Kaling will depart the NBC staple comedy to focus on writing and starring in this comedy.
