TV News - 'Bates Motel,' 'The New Normal,' 'Raising Hope,' 'How I Met Your Mother,' 'Elementary,' 'The Goodwin Games,' 'Revenge' & 'Vegas'

        Monday, August 27 - Today's casting updates include new roles and upcoming guest stars on A&E's Bates Motel; NBC's The New Normal; CBS' How I Met Your Mother, Vegas and Elementary; FOX's Raising Hope and The Goodwin Games; and ABC's Revenge



Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) has been cast as Norma Louise Bates in A&E's upcoming straight-to-series Psycho-prequel, Bates Motel. In the pilot, the Bates family moves to a rural town in Northern California and purchases a run-down motel. Executive producer Carlton Cuse (Lost) spoke of the casting, "We are delighted to welcome Vera Farmiga to Bates Motel. She is a phenomenal talent who has demonstrated incredible range and intelligence in a number of landmark film roles and we couldn't be more excited to have her join our project.

Jackie Hoffman (One Life to Live) has been tapped to appear on NBC's new comedy, The New Normal. She will play the possibly recurring role of Frances, David's (Justin Bartha) smothering mother. She adores her son and is thrilled to learn she is going to be a grandma - even through she and Bryan (Andrew Rannells) don't get along. She will first appear in episode 5.

Will & Grace alum Leslie Jordan will guest on the October 16 episode of FOX's Raising Hope. He will play Reverend Bob, a spiritual leader known for his unconventional methods who leads a couples retreat that Jimmy (Lucas Neff) and Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) attend.

In her first post-SNL role, Abby Elliot has landed an arc on the upcoming season of CBS' How I Met Your Mother. She will play Janeane, the craziest girl the gang has ever met but the crazier she gets the more attractive one of the gang finds her.

Anika Noni Rose, who appeared in recurring roles on The Good Wife and Private Practice last season, has been cast on the upcoming season of CBS' new drama Elementary. She will appear in one episode as Dr. Carrie Fox, a former colleague of Joan's (Lucy Liu), who assists during Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) investigation into an "Angel of Death."

Chris Diamantopoulos, Becki Newton's real-life husband, will guest on her new midseason comedy FOX's The Goodwin Games. He will play Chad Morrow, a beloved and charismatic doctor who will be a romantic rival for Jimmy (TJ Miller) and a professional rival for Henry (Scott Foley).

Wendy Crewson (24) has landed a possibly recurring role on the upcoming second season of ABC's Revenge. She will play Helen, a powerful business executive who goes toe-to-toe with Conrad (Henry Czerny).

Haley Strode (L.A. Noir, The New Normal) has booked a guest-starring role on CBS' new drama, Vegas. She will play Ruth, a Las Vegas native who worked as a secretary for a mobster who goes missing.
