HBO has given a 10-episode series order to drama The Leftovers co-written by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. The series is based on Perrotta's best-selling novel and tells the story of the people who didn't make the cut when the Rapture happens and a world that will never be the same.
Justin Theroux and Liv Tyler lead a very large ensemble cast. Theroux will star as the police chief who is trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in a world that is beginning to reject that notion. Tyler will make her small-screen debut as Meg, a young woman about to be married who needed an escape and becomes a target for recruitment by members of an enigmatic cult. The Leftovers also stars Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Annie Q, Paterson Joseph and Brad Leland.
Ron Yerxa, Albert Berger, Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey serve as executive producers alongside Lindelof and Perrotta. Berg directed the pilot and Lindelof will serve as showrunner for the 10-episode first season.
Warner Bros. Television and Adventure Corps will produce the series.
