OWN is expanding its relationship with Tyler Perry by ordered its fourth scripted series from the writer-actor-producer-director - a drama based on his forthcoming feature film Single Moms Club.
The hourlong series will premiere in Fall 2014 and centers on a group of single mothers from different walks of life who are brought together by an incident at their children's school. They create a support group that helps them find comedy in the obstacles of life and inner strength to overcome their personal challenges. The feature film will debut in March and stars Perry, Terry Crews, Amy Smart and Nia Long. The cable network will assemble an entirely new cast for the upcoming series.
Perry will write, produce and direct the series via his Tyler Perry Studios banner, which has an overall deal with OWN.
The series order comes after Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots returned for its second season on Tuesday and set record ratings with 2.8 million viewers - the third highest tally in the history of OWN. Perry also produces comedies Love Thy Neighbor and For Better or Worse for the network.
