During his executive session at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, David Nevins, President, Showtime, announced the premiere dates for its spring programs - the six season of Nurse Jackie, the seventh and final season of Californication and the debut of new drama Penny Dreadful.
The new seasons of Nurse Jackie and Californication will debut on Sunday, April 13 at 9/8c. and 9:30/8:30c. respectively - leading into the new docu-series Years of Living Dangerously. Penny Dreadful will launch its 8-episode season on Sunday, May 11 at 10/9c.
Nurse Jackie stars Edie Falco as Jackie Peyton, a strong-willed and brilliant - but very flawed - emergency room nurse. Clyde Phillips serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series also stars Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Dominic Fumusa, Anna Deavere Smith, Stephen Wallem, Betty Gilpin, Adam Ferrara, Ruby Jerins, Mackenzie Aladjem and Peter Facinelli. Morris Chestnum is the season six special guest star.
Californication stars David Duchovny as Hank Moody. The final season will find him joining the writer's room as his never-released film "Santa Monica Cop" now becomes a television series of the same name. Californication also stars Natasha McElhone, Evan Handler and Pamela Adlon with Michael Imperioli, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Alonzo Bodden, Heather Graham, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rob Lowe, Brandon T. Jackson, Oliver Cooper and Mercedes Masohn set to guest star on the final season.
In Penny Dreadful, some of literature's most famously terrifying characters - including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly re-imagined in a whole new light - have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series stars Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Billie Piper, Harry Treadaway and Danny Sapani. The thriller is created, written and executive produced by John Logan. Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris also executive produce. The first two episodes will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona.
