Casting News - 'Mom' Promotes Mimi Kennedy to Regular; HBO Delays Premiere Date for 'The Leftovers'; Plus 4 More Updates!

ABC's Astronaut Wives Club; CBS' Mom; HBO's Girls & The Leftovers; TNT's Franklin & Bash; and USA's Rush.





USA's RUSH
  • Rescue Me alum Larenz Tate has been promoted to series regular on the upcoming drama series - set to premiere July 17. He plays Dr. Alex Thomas, Rush's (Tom Ellis) best friend dating back to medical school and one of the few constants in his life. Unlike Rush, Alex is a man with a plan - he works as a high-ranking physician at one of Los Angeles' top hospitals and appears to have the ideal family life that Rush has long resisted. Tate played the role in the pilot as a guest star.
HBO's GIRLS
  • Desiree Akhavan (The Slope) and Peter Mark Kendall (The Leftovers) have booked recurring roles on the comedy's upcoming fourth season. They will both play fellow students in the writing program Hannah (Lena Dunham) attends.
CBS' MOM
  • Mimi Kennedy - who appeared in seven episodes of the comedy's first season - has been promoted to series regular for the second season. She plays Marjorie, a friend Christy (Anna Faris) and Bonnie (Allison Janney) meet through AA.
HBO's THE LEFTOVERS
  • The premium cable network has made a change to its premiere date plans for the new drama series. The 10-episode first season will now begin on Sunday, June 29 at 10/9c. and not June 15 as was originally announced.
TNT's FRANKLIN & BASH
  • Cloris Leachman (Raising Hope) and Barry Bostwick (Cougar Town) will guest star on the upcoming fourth season of the legal drama. Leachman will play Irina Lottye Kruskal, a frightening gypsy with pertinent knowledge of an allegedly haunted house. Bostwick will play Jake "Falcon" Reilly, a boozy resident of a retirement community who seeks to adopt his late girlfriend's adult grandson.
ABC's ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB
  • Joel Johnstone (The Newsroom, Getting On) has joined the cast of the upcoming drama series as a series regular. He will play Gus Grissom, an average student and athlete who may be the least likely astronaut but proves himself to be one of NASA's top men. He's an extraordinary engineer who flies on the Mercury and Gemini missions, and becomes the first man to go into space twice.
