Today, Syfy has given a 13-episode series order to its drama pilot 12 Monkeys - an adaptation of the film of the same name starring Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis. The series will debut on the cable network in January 2015.
12 Monkeys tells the story of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future (Nikita's Aaron Stanford) who appears in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Amanda Schill (Suits), Noah Bean (Nikita) and Kirk Acevedo (Fringe) co-star with Zeljko Ivanek (Damages) and Robert Ray Wisdom (Nashville) guest starring in the pilot.
Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett penned the pilot and will co-executive produce. Natalie Chaidez will serve as showrunner and will executive produce with Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Jake Kurily. Jeffrey Reiner directed the pilot. Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment produce.
"12 Monkeys is a captivating time-travel adventure and high-stakes race against the clock. We are thrilled to add it to our slate of engaging and thought-provoking new scripted projects," said network president Dave Howe.
