FOX Cancels 'Enlisted,' 'Surviving Jack,' 'Dads' & 'Rake'

Well, this news hurts. FOX has opted to cancel bubble comedies Enlisted and Surviving Jack. Oh, and Dads too - but that's more of a celebration than a disappointment.

UPDATE - And now, the network has also confirmed the cancellation of midseason drama Rake.

The news broke late Wednesday evening that FOX won't be bringing back any of the three comedy series left on the bubble for the 2014-15 season. While it feels good to no longer think about Dads and how it wasted some amazing talent, the cancellation of both Enlisted and Surviving Jack is sad. They were both smart and heart-warming shows that really weren't given a chance because of FOX's scheduling.

Dads wrapped up its first season - which ran for an unprecedented 18 episodes - back in February. Not even Seth MacFarlane has enough pull or good will at the network to keep the multi-cam sitcom around another year. Surviving Jack will wrap its 7 episode season this upcoming Thursday while Enlisted aired 9 of its 13 episode order before FOX pulled the remaining four episodes off its schedule. It had always stated that the remaining episodes will see the light of day eventually and there was still hope the series could return for another year. But now, it's official. It's dead. And I'm gonna go cry more than Randy when he watches Toy Story 3.

The cancellation of Rake was a foregone conclusion after the series pulled in anemic ratings following its move to Friday nights and then Saturday for a two-hour series finale.

Also of note today, FOX has decided to pass on three of its comedy pilots - Fatrick starring Zach Cregger and Marcia Cross, No Place Like Home starring Jon Heder and Jane Kaczmarek and Dead Boss starring Jane Krakowski and Amy Sedaris. That leaves two comedy pilots - the Nick Frost-Justin Long starring Sober Companion and the Tina Fey-Robert Carlock created Cabot College - still in contention at the network as comedy shelve space on the network's schedule remains tight.
