Before the series' panel at the TCA press tour, Cinemax announced that it has renewed its upcoming drama series The Knick starring Clive Owen and directed by Steven Soderbergh for a 10-episode second season to debut in 2015.
Created by Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, The Knick is set in New York City in 1900 at the Knickerbocker Hospital, home to groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff who push the boundaries of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. The newly appointed leader of the surgery staff is the brilliant, arrogant renegade Dr. John Thackery (Owen), whose addition to cocaine and opium is trumped only by his ambition for medical discovery and renown among his peers.
Soderbergh directed every episode of the drama's 10-episode first season and will do the same for the series' second. He also serves as executive producer alongside Owen, Amiel, Begler and Gregory Jacobs. Michael Polaire is producing.
In addition to Owen, The Knick also stars André Holland, Jeremy Bobb, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, Cara Seymour, Eric Johnson, David Fierro, Maya Kazan, Grainger Hines, Leon Addison Brown and Matt Frewer.
