FX Renews 'Fargo' and 'Louie'

On the heels of picking up a ton of Emmy nominations earlier this month, FX President John Landgraf announced during his executive session at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour that Fargo and Louie will both be back for a second anthology installment and a shortened fifth season, respectively.

According to FX, "The new chapter of the Fargo story will feature an all-new cast of characters, a new time period and a new 'true crime' story that will unfold over the course of 10 episodes."

Unlike fellow FX anthology series American Horror Story, the new season of Fargo won't feature any of the same actors from the first season earlier this year. However, series creator Noah Hawley will return to write all 10 episodes of the new season - just like he did for the first installment.

The bad news is that the second season of Fargo likely won't debut on the network until Fall 2015.

"We could not be more proud of Fargo, said Landgraf. "Noah's audacious, bordering on hubristic riff on my favorite Coen brothers film earned 18 Emmy nominations - the most for a single program in our history. Fargo was nothing short of breathtaking and we look forward to the next installment."

Moving to Louie, the critically acclaimed comedy series - which picked up 5 Emmy nominations this year - will return for a 7-episode fifth season in Spring 2015.

"Louie's fourth season was once again groundbreaking. Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking - always thought provoking," stated Landgraf. "The show went to narrative and cinematic places no comedy has gone before and we look forward to seeing what Louis comes up with next."
