REVIEW: 'Suits' - Mike Tries to Find Direction in Life While Rachel Reveals a Painful Truth in 'We're Done'

USA's Suits - Episode 4.07 "We're Done"

Mike is reeling in the wake of the Gillis Industries takeover battle. When Rachel delivers even more troubling news, Mike makes a rash decision, leaving Harvey as the last friend to whom he can turn. Meanwhile, Jessica lets Louis name his own reward - which proves more complicated than he first expects.

"We're Done" is easily my favorite episode of the fourth season so far largely because it's solely about the characters and not the legal back-and-forth. The end of the Gillis Industries takeover battle left major repercussions for several characters. Now, everyone has to deal with the aftermath of their decisions. Mike is trying to find direction in his life. Rachel needs to tell the truth about what happened with Logan. Louis gets to pick a reward while also still dealing with the illegal tactics from Charles Forstman. Jessica needs to prove that she trusts Jeff. The only people who are left somewhat okay are Harvey and Donna and they need to be the support for everyone else on the show. And that is wonderful! Although the way the Mike and Rachel relationship is left is very tragic - for now at least.

When the show first committed to Mike and Rachel as a romantic couple, series creator Aaron Korsh didn't know if they would last or break up. It wasn't until the start of this season that he figured out what would happen between those two. At times, it was very evident he didn't know what to do with those two as a couple. But this season has been very dynamic simply because of the stress placed on their relationship from the takeover battle and Logan. As I've previous stated, I didn't care or buy the Logan-Rachel relationship one bit. But this has also been a great season for Meghan Markle. She's being given material that is pushing her range. And it's been wonderful to watch. We all knew it was only a matter of time in this hour before the big reveal occurred. It was a ticking time bomb. And then, it came out just as Mike was saying how all he needed in life right now was her. That was such a tragic moment. The two do have this immense love for each other. She just made this one mistake and she owns up to it as well. She feels terrible but it was a decision she made and now has to deal with the consequences. I have no clue if this break between the two will be permanent or not. I hope not. But the story has pushed and challenged the two of them as a couple and as actors. That journey has been so rewarding already that I don't foresee it as an end. They just be an awkward holding pattern for a bit as they try to find a way to trust each other again.

And yet, the bigger surprise of the hour is that it was Louis who got Mike his job back at Pearson Spector. It was what we all were expecting following Mike's firing last week. But still, it was Louis! The guy who despises Mike so much because of how he took advantage of his relationship with Sheila. But it still all made perfect sense. Jessica doesn't want Mike back and Harvey's hands are tied. Louis is granted his own reward and it can't be name partner like he always dreams of. Instead Louis wants Mike working for them rather than working for Charles Forstman. To Louis, Forstman is a weasel and a criminal. But there's nothing he can do to stop the man from making even more money from this deal. Louis may hate Mike but he truly believes that Mike shouldn't be a part of Forstman's life. So the status quo is finally back to the way it's always been. Mike is back at Pearson Spector and back to being a fraud. That obviously is still weighing down on him and I'm intrigued to see how his return to the firm will effect his relationships with everyone else.

Some more thoughts:
  • "We're Done" was written by Aaron Korsh, Daniel Arkin & Genevieve Sparling and directed by Cherie Nowlan.
  • Sean Cahill has just 10 days to prove everything he's done to Pearson Spector is a part of the investigation and not just harassment.
  • Jessica and Jeff are able to patch things up over that whole mistrust issue. That was definitely one of the least intriguing bits of this exciting episode.
  • I do think all Katrina does is just prop Louis up but I generally enjoyed that line about being attracted to him.
  • Way to go Rachel and Harvey for kicking Logan to the curb. And to Mike for throwing in a couple good punches.
  • Donna really is the best.
