Nearly three months after its third season finale, TV Land has officially renewed The Soul Man for a fourth season to be comprised of 12 episodes - the highest number of episodes ordered for a new season of the Cedric the Entertainer-starring sitcom since Season 1. The show is expected to return in early 2015.
The series, a spinoff of the network's veteran comedy Hot in Cleveland, stars Cedric as an R&B superstar-turned-reverend who retires to St. Louis to become a preacher in his father's church. Also starring are Niecy Nash, Wesley Jonathan, Jazz Raycole and John Beasley.
The sitcom was created by Suzanne Martin and Cedric the Entertainer. Additional executive producers are Sean Hayes, Larry W. Jones, Keith Cox, Eric Rhone and Todd Milliner. TV Land Original Productions, Hazy Mills Productions, Bird and a Bear Entertainment and SamJen Productions produce.
"We are thrilled to bring back Cedric, Niecy and The Soul Man for another season," said Jones. "TV Land has loved working with this cast and crew who come together each week and create one of the funniest half-hours on TV."

The renewal comes as TV Land has ordered new seasons of veteran series Hot in Cleveland (debuting 2015) and The Exes (debuting November 5, 2014) and is prepping single camera comedies Younger starring Sutton Foster and The Gaffigan Show starring Jim Gaffigan for launches in the next few months. Still in limbo is Jennifer Falls which has its first season finale on Wednesday, August 13.
