Development News - September 30, 2014

MTV's Self Promotion and Showtime's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

SHOWTIME's CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND
  • Michael McDonald (MADtv), Donna Lynne Champlin (Billy Elliot), Santino Fontana (Frozen) and Vincent Rodriguez III (Here Lies Love) have been cast on the musical comedy pilot starring Rachel Bloom. McDonald will play Darryl, Rebecca's (Bloom) new boss. Champlin will play Paula, a suspicious co-worker at the New York law firm. Fontana will play Greg, Rebecca's first friend. Rodriguez III will play Josh, Rebecca's childhood boyfriend who reappears in her life years later.
MTV's SELF PROMOTION
  • MTV has ordered a pilot for dark comedy Self Promotion, written by Mark Bianculli and to be directed by Zach Braff. Steve Yockey will also serve as executive producer. The prospective series centers on overworked assistant Katie Preston who discovers that her dragon lady boss is missing (or worse). Things get messy fast, with Katie, believing she'll be the prime suspect, covering up the crime scene. She starts calling the shots in her boss' "absence" and goes full CSI to find out what actually happened and exonerate herself. Success at the office is hectic and maybe even dangerous in this darkly comedic twist on climbing the corporate ladder.
