ABC Family Gives Series Order to Drama 'Recovery Road'

ABC Family has picked up a new scripted drama to series Recovery Road, it was announced today by Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family.

Based on the popular young adult novel by Blake Nelson, Recovery Road focuses on a teenage girl dealing with addiction. Maddie has a reputation as a party girl who doesn't think she has a problem, until she's confronted one day by her school guidance counselor and is forced to choose between expulsion and rehab. Maddie makes the difficult decision to live with other recovering addicts at a rehab facility while facing the daily pressures of her teenage life.

"ABC Family is best known for its ground-breaking original series and Recovery Road is right in our wheel-house," said Burke. "This series will explore relevant social issues for our audience and shine a light on addiction. It's a powerful addition to our line up and the strong, authentic characters are sure to resonate with our audience."

The pilot was written by Bert V. Royal and Karen DiConcetto, who will also serve as executive producers alongside Craig Piligian and Beth Miller rom Pilgrim Studios and Danielle VonZerneck.

ABC Family has not confirmed a cast for Recovery Road, as it has undergone a major redeveloping since it filmed its original pilot. The cast for that version included Samantha Logan, Sebastian De Souza, Alexis Carra, Doug Savant, Sharon Leal, Kyla Pratt, Justin Prentice and Caroline Sunshine.
