Development News - Justin Chatwin Books Lead on 'Breed'; Adriana Barraza Joins 'The Queen of the South; Plus 2 More Updates!

Development News - January 13, 2015

ABC Family's Tough Cookie; Showtime's Roadies; TNT's Breed; and USA's The Queen of the South.

SHOWTIME's ROADIES
  • Rapper and actor Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) will round out the cast of the comedy pilot starring Christina Hendricks. He will play Jesse, Kelly Ann's (Imogen Poots) big-hearted twin brother, who thrives around guitars and espresso machines.
USA's THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH
  • Oscar nominee Adriana Barraza (Babel) will co-star on the drama pilot starring Alice Braga. She will play Camilla, the lioness ex-wife of a powerful drug lord who is now establishing her own empire in America. She quickly becomes a mother figure to Teresa (Braga), but their relationship escalates into a deadly battle of wills.
TNT's BREED
  • Justin Chatwin (Shameless, Orphan Black) has landed the lead role on the drama pilot from writer John Scott Shepherd. He will play Detective Cooper Wells, a boyish but vaguely damaged star FBI agent who was recently let go from the bureau after claiming to see a criminal turn into a monster in front of his eyes. Recovering from his nervous breakdown and eager to work his way back up, Cooper accepts a low-key position on the Tacoma Police Force, hoping desperately for a major case. The one he finds is stranger and more horrific than he could imagine: the killers behind a brutal series of murders are revealed to be a savage race of monster-like creatures that need to be stalked and hunted - and Cooper will have to align himself with an aggressive, highly-specialized assassin to catch them.
ABC FAMILY's TOUGH COOKIE
  • Shoshana Bush (Awkward) and Frankie Shaw (Mixology) will topline the comedy pilot from writer Lauren Iungerich, with Mallory James Mahoney also cast today. Bush will play Lilla, a strong-willed, self-centered publicist who got pregnant at young age and gave the baby up for adoption so she would never have to be reminded of the guy who left her ever again. Mahoney will play Eleanor, Lilla's daughter who has a cynical and precocious personality due to years sent in multiple foster homes. Shaw will play Heidi, a dim-witted debutante supported by her parents who lives in Lilla's apartment and is ultimately freaked out after meeting Eleanor.
