BET Renews 'Being Mary Jane' for Season 3

Two days after its second season premiere, BET has renewed drama Being Mary Jane starring Gabrielle Union for a third season. Production will begin later this year for a debut likely in early 2016.

Created by Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, Being Mary Jane follows the sometimes disastrous personal and professional life of news anchor Mary Jane Paul (Union). The cast also includes Richard Roundtree, Margaret Avery, Richard Brooks, Lisa Vidal, B.J. Britt, Aaron Spears, Latarsha Rose and Stephen Bishop. Akil Productions produces the drama.

The second season debuted on February 3 to 2.37 million viewers and a 1.16 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic. That is down from the first season average, but BET is still fine with those numbers.
