This afternoon HBO has renewed modestly rated comedy Getting On for a third and final season. The third season - like the first two - will consist of six episodes. Production will begin later this year.
Based on the British series of the same name, Getting On centers on the doctors and nurse who comprise a women's geriatric wing at a beleaguered hospital as they struggle with the realities of caring for the elderly amid an overwhelmed health care system.
Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer adapted the comedy for their Anima Sola Productions banner. BBC Worldwide Productions' Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner also executive produce, alongside original series producers Geoff Atkinson, Jo Brand, Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine.
The comedy stars Alex Borstein, Laurie Metcalf, Niecy Nash and Mel Rodriguez.
During its sophomore run, Getting On drew an average audience of 1.6 million viewers per episode.
