FOX has picked up comedy New Girl for a fifth season, it was announced today by David Madden, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. The renewal means the series will celebrate its landmark 100th episode during the upcoming 2015-16 season.
"Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television," said Madden. "The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious and we couldn't be more proud of Liz, Brett, Dave and the entire New Girl team. We absolutely love this show and we're so excited to bring it back for Season 5."
New Girl stars Emmy nominee Zooey Deschanel as a smart, spirited and single young woman who navigates her way through the highs and lows of modern friendship and romance, alongside her four male roommates (Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Damon Wayans Jr.) and her best friend (Hannah Simone).
Created by Liz Meriwether, New Girl is produced by Chernin Entertainment in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Meriwether, Dave Finkel, Brett Baer, Jake Kasdan, Peter Chernin and Katherine Pop are executive producers.
The fifth season will also mark the second departure of Damon Wayans Jr. as Coach - as he opted not to sign up for an additional year following the fourth season. The fifth season is already in production to better accommodate Zooey Deschanel's pregnancy and to cut down on the number of episodes she may be absent from in the upcoming season.
