Netflix Gives Series Order to Drama 'The OA' from Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij

Following a multiple-network bidding war, Netflix has given an 8-episode series order to The OA, an hourlong drama series from indie duo Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij.

The premise of the drama is being closely kept under wraps. However, Marling will star and co-write alongside Batmanglij, who will direct. The OA will premiere on the streaming service in 2016.

The OA builds on the relationship between the two, from 2011's Sound of My Voice and 2013's The East, both of which they co-wrote, Batmanglij directed and Marling starred in.

Marling and Batmanglij will executive produce alongside Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Michael Sugar. Plan B Entertainment and Anonymous Content will produce.

"We are thrilled to be the home of the first television series Brit and Zal create together," said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix. "Whether in front of or behind the camera, or both, their creative voice is always uniquely captivating."
