More than a decade after Sex and the City concluded its run, Sarah Jessica Parker is officially returning to HBO as the premium network has given a series order to her new single-camera comedy series Divorce.
Divorce centers on Frances (Parker), a middle-aged woman who, strongly influenced by her two recently single friends (Molly Shannon & Talia Balsam), impulsively brings up the idea of divorce with her husband (Thomas Haden Church) but then can't decide whether to actually go through with it - until her husband discovers the affair she's been having (with Jemaine Clement) and calls the marriage off.
In addition to starring, Parker executive produces via her Pretty Matches Productions banner. Sharon Horgan wrote the pilot, and will serve as showrunner with Paul Simms. Jesse Peretz directed the pilot. Aaron Kaplan and Alison Benson also executive produce.
Divorce will begin production in New York later this year, for a 2016 debut.
For HBO, Divorce joins an upcoming comedy roster that includes veteran shows Girls, Veep, Silicon Valley, Getting On and Togetherness as well as new additions Ballers, The Brink and Vice Principals.
