Development News - ABC, FOX and The CW Pass on a Plethora of Drama & Comedy Pilots

ABC's Delores & Jermaine, Family Fortune, The King of 7B, Nerd Herd, Untitled Johnny Knoxville & Untitled Judah Miller; FOX's The Perfect Stanleys; and The CW's Cheerleader Death Squad, Dead People & Tales From the Darkside.



ABC's DELORES & JERMAINE
  • ABC has passed on its multi-cam comedy pilot Delores & Jermaine starring Jermaine Fowler and Whoopi Goldberg. Fowler penned the pilot with Danny Chun, with both as executive producers with Michael Rotenberg, Avi Gilbert and Beth McCarthy-Miller. The cast also included Jennia Fredrique, Roy Wood Jr., Christina Moore and Ernie Hudson. The project centered on a millennial (Fowler) with big ideas but very little drive who moves in with his estranged grandmother (Goldberg), a strict, football-loving, former DC cop, who needs his youthful enthusiasm in her life as much as he needs her old school parenting. ABC Studios and 3 Arts Entertainment produced.
ABC's FAMILY FORTUNE
  • ABC has also passed on multi-cam comedy pilot Family Fortune starring Fortune Feimster, who also penned the pilot with Matt Hubbard. Robert Carlock, Tina Fey and David Miner were also executive producers. The project focused on a popular gym teacher (Feimster) who comes out of the closet to her close-knit group of family and friends. What she doesn't realize is that she will also have to deal with her bickering, happily divorced parents (Annie Potts & John Carroll Lynch) also "coming out" that they are sleeping together again. The cast also included Parker Young. Lacey Chabert and Chris Redd. Universal Television, 3 Arts Entertainment and Little Stranger Productions produced.
ABC's THE KING OF 7B
  • The comedy pilot starring Craig Ferguson is also not moving forward at ABC. The pilot was written by Howard Franklin, who executive produced with Dan Fogelman, Ben Karlin and director David Frankel. The project starred Ferguson as an agoraphobic recluse who ventures outside for the first time in 20 years when he spies what could be his soul mate (Ione Skye) moving into the building across the street. Carla Jimenez, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Amir Talai and Marin Hinkle co-starred. ABC Studios and Rhode Island Ave. Productions produced.
ABC's UNTITLED JOHNNY KNOXVILLE PROJECT
  • Also not making the cut for comedy pilots this year at ABC is the untitled pilot based on the life of Johnny Knoxville. Victor Fresco wrote the pilot, which was directed by Michael Fresco. Additional executive producers were Knoxville, Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky. The project centered on a 12-year-old Johnny (Brandon Spink) who navigates the "outlaws culture" of his family and small hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee. Also starring were David Koechner, Julie Ann Emery, Brad Carter and Brittany Beery. ABC Studios and 3 Arts Entertainment produced.
ABC's UNTITLED JUDAH MILLER PROJECT
  • Additionally, ABC has passed on the untitled comedy pilot written by Judah Miller. Executive producers were Tom Lassally, Jonathan Berry and director Alex Hardcastle. 20th Century Fox Television and 3 Arts Entertainment produced. The project focused on a Tony-winning mother (Megan Hilty) and a risk averse, cerebral father (Greg Grunberg) blessed with a son who's a natural born competitive athlete. The cast also included Mary Lynn Rajskub, Marissa Janet Winokur, Efren Ramirez, Tony Rock and Matthew McCann.
ABC's NERD HERD
  • The single camera comedy pilot Nerd Herd is the final comedy pilot being passed on today by ABC. Wendy and Lizzie Molyneuz wrote the pilot, and executive produced with Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. The project centered on a couple (James Roday & Majandra Delfino) raising extraordinary intelligent kids who don't always have the best social skills. The cast also featured Melanie Griffith, Raphael Alejando, Katherine Reis, Zoe Colletti, Spencer Tomich and Harrison Holzer. 20th Century Fox Television and Imagine Television produced.
FOX's THE PERFECT STANLEYS
  • Moving to other networks, FOX has passed on the multi-cam comedy pilot The Perfect Stanleys written by Dana Klein and directed by Pam Fryman. Aaron Kaplan was also an executive producer. 20th Century Fox Television and Kapital Entertainment produced. The project was told from the point-of-view of a working mother (Jenna Elfman) who is in constant competition with her perfect, stay at home sister-in-law (Liza Lapira). Matt Letscher, Bret Harrison, Nancy Lenehan, Izzy Watts, Peter Riegert, Jason Maybaum, Lauren Donzis and Lucas Jaye co-starred.
THE CW's CHEERLEADER DEATH SQUAD
  • The CW has also passed on drama pilot Cheerleader Death Squad written by Marc Cherry, Neal Baer and Dan Truly. Sabrina Wind was also an executive producer. CBS Television Studios produced. The project centered on a disgraced CIA agent-turned-teacher (Alan Van Sprang) who realizes that his elite high school students have high-level access through personal connections and trains a selection few to be his eyes and ears into the world of international espionage. Abbie Cobb, Gia Mantegna, Aylin Bayramoglu and Pepi Sonuga co-starred.
THE CW's DEAD PEOPLE
  • Dead People is also not moving forward at The CW. The pilot was written by Tom Kapinos. The project centered on a down-on-his-luck, semi-alcoholic but roguishly charming cab driver (Andrew J. West) who, after a near-death experience, suddenly has the ability to interact with ghost. The cast also included Alexandra Chando, Echo Kellum and Jaime Lee Kirchner.
THE CW's TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE
  • The final pilot being passed on today is the remake of the anthology horror format Tales From the Darkside. The pilot was written by Joe Hill, and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Mitchell Galin, Heather Kadin and Jerry Golod. CBS Television Studios and K/O Paper Products produced, with Kris Lemche as the only ongoing series regular.
