Netflix has given a 13-episode straight-to-series order to single-camera comedy Lady Dynamite starring Maria Bamford. Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development) and Pam Brady (South Park) will write and executive produce the series set to debut in 2016. Brady will serve as showrunner.
Lady Dynamite is based on what Bamford has accepted to be "her life." The occasionally surreal episodes, refracted across multiple periods inspired by her life, tell the story of a woman who loses - and the finds - her sh*t.
The new comedy continues Hurwitz and Bamford's relationship with Netflix. Bamford is a part of the voice cast on the streaming service's animated hit BoJack Horseman and also appeared in a recurring role on the fourth season of Arrested Development. Hurwitz signed a multi-year overall deal with the company last year. He is still in talks about doing more episodes of Arrested Development and is also an executive producer on Will Arnett's upcoming Netflix comedy Flaked - also due in 2016.
