Development News - July 23, 2015

Amazon's The Trial; E!'s The Arrangement; and USA's Poor Richard's Almanack.

USA's POOR RICHARD'S ALMANACK
  • The cable network has given a pilot order to drama Poor Richard's Almanack written by Jim Danger Gray (Orange Is the New Black) and Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones). Universal Cable Productions and Legendary Television produce. The project weaves between modern day and a possible future where characters have changed radically and a cadre of heroes emerge as the new "Founding Fathers" after America is pushed to the brink of collapse.
E!'s THE ARRANGEMENT
  • Dallas star Josh Henderson has been cast as the male lead of the drama pilot written by Jonathan Abrahams. He will play Kyle West, the hottest male actor of the moment leading a summer blockbuster movie who presents Megan with an arranged relationship for the publicity.
AMAZON's THE TRIAL
  • Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade, Fargo) has signed on to play the lead role on the prospective drama created by David E. Kelley and Jonathan Shapiro. His casting will likely lead to a straight-to-series pickup - though Amazon has yet to confirm such an order. He will play Billy McBride, a once respectable lawyer who was ousted from the high-profile firm he co-founded. Billy now spends his days getting drunk, with the occasional case tossed his way by his ex-wife. However, he is reinvigorated professionally when a young lawyer who has just been fired from his old firm brings him a wrongful death case that pits him against the head of his former firm.
