Comedy duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele announced today that their variety sketch series Key and Peele will end after five seasons on Comedy Central. The Wrap broke the news today.
"This is our final season - and it's not because of Comedy Central, it's us," Key says. "It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie."
Season five of Key and Peele premiered in early July and airs Wednesdays at 10/9c. The series will air its last episode in September. The sketch comedy received a record seven Emmy nominations earlier this month, including the new Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series nod for Key.
"There will be Key and Peele productions coming up," Key continued. "We're doing the reboot of Police Academy, and there's a TV show in the works that we might do for Comedy Central. There's lots of stuff we have cooking up."
