Netflix has announced a 20-episode first season of Spanish-language original drama Ingobernable starring Kate del Castillo. The series will begin production in Mexico in Early 2016 for a debut later in the year.
Kate del Castillo will play Irene Urza, the wife of Mexico's president. Irene is a woman with a strong personality and clear ideas who is capable of "creating a president, leaving a president and killing a president."
The series will be produced by Argos and directed by Jose Luis Garcia Agraz and Pedro Pablo Ibarra "Pitipol."
"Netflix is committed to the creation of high-quality, Spanish-language original series for Mexico, U.S., Latin America and the world. We are thrilled to be working with one of Latin America's biggest and most talented stars, Kate de Castillo, on Ingobernable, our next original series produced in Mexico," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix.
Added del Castillo: "I absolutely love the role. It's challenged, it's risky, it's compelling. The storyline and the cast are excellent. The kind of content Netflix is synonymous with. I am so happy to be part of the team. This is like nothing people have seen me in before and I ca't wait to start this journey with Netflix and Ingobernable."
