Netflix has given a second season renewal to its original drama series Narcos, it was announced today. The news continues the online streaming services renewal streak when it comes to its original programming.
The drama stars Wagner Moura as drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and tells the story of the rise of the Medellin Cartel, once the world's most ambitious and violent trafficking organization.
The cast also features Boyd Holbrook, Pedro Pascal, Raúl Méndez, Manolo Cardona, Maurice Compte, Ana de la Reguera, Stephanie Sigman, Joanna Christie, Roberto Urbina, Jorge A. Jimennez, Paulina Gaitan, Jean Pablo Raba, André Mattos, Brune Bichir and Luis Guzmán.
The series was co-created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro. Adam Fierro (The Shield) will take over as showrunner for Season 2 from Brancato, who oversaw the first season and departed recently to run ABC's midseason drama Of Kings and Prophets. José Padilha and Eric Newman also executive produce.
The drama from Gaumont International Television dropped all 10 episodes of Season 1 on Friday, August 28. The second season will likely debut in 2016.
