NBC Trims 'The Player' Order to 9 Episodes

NBC has reduced the episode order on its new fall drama The Player from thirteen to nine episodes, it was reported this evening.

The drama starring Philip Winchester and Wesley Snipes opened on September 25 to just a 1.2 rating in the key Adults 18-49 demographic. In its most recent airing, it only did a 0.8 rating and less than 4 million total viewers.

The drama also stars Charity Wakefiled, Damon Gupton, Daisy Betts and Nick Wechsler.

The series was created by John Rogers, who executive produces with John Davis, John Fox and Bharat Nalluri. Sony Pictures Television, Davis Entertainment, Universal Television and Kung Fu Monkey Productions produce.

The Player is the second new series to have its episode order reduced by its network. Earlier this week, FOX cut the order for Minority Report from 13 to 10 episodes.

The Player will likely disappear from the network's schedule mid-November. It's currently unclear what the network will replace it with on the schedule - though it's likely a new scripted series won't debut until January.
