Casting News - Kristen Bell and Ted Danson to Topline NBC's New Comedy 'Good Place'; Plus 4 More Updates!

Casting News - January 12, 2016

ABC's Castle; CBS' Criminal Minds; NBC's Good Place; Showtime's House of Lies & Penny Dreadful; and TNT's Major Crimes.

NBC's GOOD PLACE
  • Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, House of Lies) and Ted Danson (CSI: Cyber, Fargo) have signed on to topline the upcoming comedy series from Parks and Recreation's Mike Schur. Bell will play Eleanor, a New Jersey woman who comes to realize that she hasn't been a very good person. She decides to turn over a new leaf by learning what it actually means to be "good" or "bad," and then trying to make up for her past behavior. Danson will play Michael, who through an unlikely set of circumstances comes to be Eleanor's guide through her self-designed self-improvement course. Should Showtime renew House of Lies for a sixth season, Bell will contractually be allowed to do both shows. Meanwhile, Danson is likely to depart the cast of CSI: Cyber should it be brought back for a third season.
TNT's MAJOR CRIMES
  • Curtis Armstrong is set to reprise his role from The Closer during the drama's fourth season. In the February 15 episode, he'll return as Peter Goldman, the attorney who helped bring down former Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick). This time, he's turning his sights on Captain Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) and Assistant Chief Russell Taylor (Robert Gossett) for their seeming indifference to murder in gangland communities.
ABC's CASTLE
  • Nick E. Tarabay (Spartacus) and Ellen Woglom (Californication) will appear in an upcoming episode of the drama's eighth season. Tarabay will play Vasily Zhirov, an agent with the Russian Diplomatic Security Service. Woglom will play a police cadet who Kate (Stana Katic) forms a mentor relationship with.
CBS' CRIMINAL MINDS
  • Emmy nominee Danny Glover (Touch, Leverage, Psych) will play Derek Morgan's (Shemar Moore) father on an upcoming episode of the drama's eleventh season. It's currently unclear how he appears on the show though considering his character has long been established as being dead.
SHOWTIME's HOUSE OF LIES and PENNY DREADFUL
  • The premium cable network has announced premiere dates for the following series: House of Lies starring Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell will return for its 10-episode fifth season on Sunday, April 10 at 9/8c. Meanwhile, Penny Dreadful starring Eva Green and Timothy Dalton will begin its 9-episode third season on Sunday, May 1 at 10/9c.
