Syfy has renewed its original drama series The Magicians for a second season of 13 episodes, it was announced today. The new season will air in 2017. The Magicians comes from Universal Cable Productions and is executive produced by John McNamara, Sera Gamble, Henry Alonso Myers, Michael London and Janice Williams.
Based on the bestselling novels from Lev Grossman, the drama centers on Quentin, a brilliant grad student chosen to attend Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too read when they unwittingly invite a malevolent entity from the other side into their world.
The drama stars Jason Ralph, Stella Maeve, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta and Summer Bishil. Recurring guest stars Rick Worthy and Jade Tailor have been promoted to series regulars for the second season.

During its first three episodes, The Magicians has averaged 1.7 million viewers, 853,000 Adults 18-49 and 910,000 Adults 25-54, based on Live+3 data.
