Casting News - Simu Liu to Recur on NBC's 'Taken'; Jeff Pierre Books Role on Freeform's 'Beyond'; Plus 3 More Updates!

FREEFORM's BEYOND
  • Jeff Pierre (Drumline: A New Beat, Shameless) has booked a series regular role on the upcoming drama starring Burkely Duffield. He will play Jeff, a former military guy who is tough but vulnerable. He is obsessive and guilt-ridden while being driven by a higher calling.
NBC's TAKEN
  • Simu Liu (Blood and Water) has been cast in a major recurring role on the upcoming drama starring Clive Standen and Jennifer Beals. He will play Faaron, a member of Bryan's (Standen) team whose job it is to act quickly in support of the team on the ground.
SPIKE's RED MARS
  • Pre-production on the straight-to-series drama adaptation of the hit novel series from Kim Stanley Robinson has paused. The moves comes after executive producer and showrunner Peter Noah has left the series. The series is currently searching for a new showrunner. The move means the series likely won't be able to meet its original January 2017 launch date.
FX's THE STRAIN
  • Cas Anvar (The Expanse) has landed a recurring role on the drama's upcoming third season. He will play Sanjay Desai, an opportunistic young businessman eager to place himself in a protected position amidst the chaos.
SUNDANCETV's TOP OF THE LAKE
  • Liv Hewson (Before I Fall, Dramaworld) will appear on the upcoming second season of the drama starring Elisabeth Moss and Gwendoline Christie. She will play Michaela, Mary's best friend at school.
