Drew Barrymore (Grey Gardens) and Timothy Olyphant (Justified) have been tapped to star in Netflix's new original comedy series Santa Clarita Diet. Their casting has led to the streaming service giving the show a straight-to-series order today for a 2017 premiere.
Santa Clarita Diet centers on married couple Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore), realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita - until Sheila goes through a dramatic change that sends both of their lives down a road of death and destruction... but in a good way.
Victor Fresco (Better Off Ted) created the series. He will executive produce with Barrymore, Olyphant, Aaron Kaplan, Tracy Katsky, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell. An episode count has not yet been determined.
"The genius casting of Timothy and Drew combined with Victor's unique comedic sensibility will delight, and definitely surprise, our members around the world," said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix.
