Freeform has renewed its original drama series Shadowhunters for a second season, it was announced today. The renewal means the adaptation of The Mortal Instruments book series will outlast the film franchise - which died after only one movie.
The drama stars Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, a woman who finds out on her 18th birthday that she is not who she thinks she is, but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters - human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons.
The cast also includes Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa and Harry Shum Jr.
Ed Decter developed the series, and serves as executive producer with McG, Michael Lynne, Robert Shaye, Michael Reisz, Mary Viola, J. Miles Dale and Robert Kulzer. Freeform Original Productions, Constantin Film, Wonderland Sound and Vision, Unique Features and Carteret St. Productions produce.
The first book of the series City of Bones serves as the skeleton for the first season of the series. It's easy to assume that the second book City of Ashes will do the same for the second season.
