Days after the project was first announced and being shopped around cable channels, Netflix has landed Maniac, a dark comedy series starring Oscar nominees Emma Stone (Birdman) and Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street) and to be directed by Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga (True Detective).
Maniac is based on a 2014 Norwegian comedy series that revolved around a mental patient at a psychiatric ward who escapes reality and lives in a fantasy world in his mind.
A search for a writer for the series is still underway. Fukunaga has signed on to direct every episode. In addition to starring and directing, Stone, Hill and Fukunaga will executive produce with Michael Sugar and Doug Wald. Anonymous Content and Paramount Television will produce.
