After weeks of complicated negotiations, Supergirl has officially been renewed for a second season. However, the show is changing networks for its new episodes. Season 2 will air on The CW instead of CBS.
The change in networks comes as Warner Bros. Television has reduced the licensing fee for each episode while production is officially moving from Los Angeles to Vancouver (where The CW's other DC Comics shows are filmed). The new season also won't be a co-production with CBS Television Studios, with Warner taking on all of the production responsibilities.
During its first season, Supergirl's numbers dropped considerably from a strong start. And yet, the season averaged a 2.4 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic and averaged nearly 10 million total viewers.
The drama stars Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood and Calista Flockhart. It's currently unclear if all of the cast will be returning for the second season because of the production move to Vancouver.
Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg developed the series. They executive produce with Sarah Schechter.
