'Mad Men' Creator Matthew Weiner Sets TV Return with Amazon Anthology Series

In a highly competitive situation, Amazon has given a straight-to-series order of eight episodes to an untitled anthology drama created by Emmy-winning writer Matthew Weiner (Mad Men).

Few details are being released about the upcoming series at this time. however, it is said to be a contemporary anthology set in multiple locations across the globe.

Weiner created the drama and will write, executive produce and direct at least half of the season. Amazon and The Weinstein Company are producing the series.

Amazon is rumored to have given a $70 million commitment to the series.

The new series marks a return to television for Weiner following the seven-season run of AMC's critically-acclaimed drama Mad Men. The period drama won four consecutive outstanding drama series awards at the Emmys. Since the May 2015 finale, Weiner has focused on development and directing (recently helming a pivotal episode of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black).
