In a somewhat surprising move, Amazon has decided to cancel its original drama series Good Girls Revolt after one season. The first and only season debuted on October 28, 2016. Production company TriStar Television is said to be shopping the period drama to other outlets.
Set in 1969, the drama centered on a group of young female researchers who work at News of the Week, inspired by the landmark sexual discrimination case chronicled in Lynn Povich's book of the same name.
The cast included Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, Erin Darke, Chris Diamantopoulos, Hunter Parrish, Jim Belushi and Joy Bryant.
Dana Calvo developed the drama. She served as executive producer with Darlene Hunt, Lynda Obst, Don Kurt and Jeff Okin. Amazon Studios and TriStar Television produced.
The first season received mixed to positive reviews. Like Netflix, Amazon doesn't release ratings for its originals. However, it was reported that the show did well in female viewership and was on par with some of the other drama releases. The quick cancellation likely signals at someone at Amazon not having much faith in the future of the series - as either something viewers will watch over time or as an awards contender.
