FOX Renews 'Empire' and Orders More Episodes of 'The Mick'

During their executive session at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, FOX Chairman and CEO Gary Newman and entertainment president David Madden announced a Season 4 renewal for Empire and an additional four episodes for the first season of The Mick.

Empire is currently in a three month hiatus, with fellow Lee Daniels drama Star airing in its normal Wednesday night time slot. The drama returns for the second half of its third season on March 22. The fourth season will once again include 18 episodes. Empire is the first live-action series to be picked up for the 2017-18 season on FOX.

The cast currently includes Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Bryshere Y. Gray, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, Grace Byers, Gabourey Sidibe, Ta'Rhonda Jones, Serayah, Bre-Z, Morocco Omari and Xzibit.

Lee Daniels and Danny Strong created the drama. They executive produce with Ilene Chaiken, Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo and Sanaa Hamri. 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television, Lee Daniels Entertainment and Danny Strong Productions produce.

The Mick is only three episodes into its first season but FOX is really confident in it which is what led to the order for more episodes today. The first season will now include 17 episodes.

The comedy stars Kaitlin Olson, Sofia Black D'Elia, Thomas Barbusca, Jack Stanton, Carla Jimenez and Scott MacArthur.

Dave and John Chernin created the comedy. They executive produce with Olson, Nick Frenkel, Oly Obst and Randall Einhorn. 20th Century Fox Television and 3 Arts Entertainment produce.

Olson is still expecting to be able to continue shooting It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (which starts production on Season 13 this spring).
