VH1 has announced a February premiere date for its upcoming original drama series The Breaks. The series is a continuation of the two-hour film that aired on the network last year and was seen by 2.6 million viewers.
The drama will premiere on Monday, February 20 at 9/8c.
The original film followed three young friends fulfilling their hip hop dreams in New York City in 1990. The series continues to explore their triumphs and heartbreak trying to make their mark in a new and complex hip hop culture.
The drama stars Afton Williamson, Wood Harris, Mack Wilds, Antoine Harris, David Call, Evan Handler, Melonie Diaz, Sinqua Walls and Ali Ahn.
Also reprising their roles from the film are Cliff "Method Man" Smith, Russell Hornsby, J. Bernard Calloway, William Jackson Harper, A-F-R-O and De'Adre Aziza.
Guest stars in the first season include Kim Wayans, Lela Rochon, Dave East, Hassan Jonson, Tip "T.I." Harris, Teyana Taylor and Gloria Reuben.
Seith Mann developed the series. He executive produces with John J. Strauss, Dan Charnas, Maggie Malina, Chris McCarthy and Amy Doyle. VH1 Productions produces.
