Development News - Freddie Highmore Books Lead on 'The Good Doctor'; 'Black Lightning' Casts Title Role; Plus 20 More Updates!

ABC's The Crossing, The Good Doctor, Household Name, Untitled Marc Cherry & Untitled Paul William Davies; CBS' Me, Myself and I, Perfect Citizen, Real Life & Untitled Paul Attanasio; The CW's Black Lightning, Dynasty, Insatiable, Life Sentence, Searchers & Valor; FOX's The Resident & Thin Ice; and NBC's For God and Country, Reverie, The Sackett Sisters, Untitled Warren Leight & Untitled Mike O'Brien.

THE CW's LIFE SENTENCE
  • Gillian Vigman (The Hangover) and Brooke Lyons (The Affair) have been cast on the hourlong comedy pilot starring Lucy Hale. Vigman will play Ida, Stella's (Hale) mother, the glue that held her family together, until she decides to shirk her maternal responsibilities and follow her heart into a lesbian relationship with her best friend Poppy, the owner of a cheese shop called Brie Yourself. Lyons will play Elizabeth, Stella's older sister, who has always put her dreams aside to take care of her family, including having children to give her parents something positive to focus on - which she now realizes she might regret.
NBC's UNTITLED MIKE O'BRIEN PROJECT
  • Mary Sohn (The Boss, Bajillion Dollar Propertie$) will co-star on the comedy pilot written by Mike O'Brien. She will play Mary, a loud and sassy art teacher at Whitlock High, the kind of teacher who tells her students to draw a flattering picture of her to take home to their dads. She has a way of ripping people open where they don't know it's happening and often talks in street slang.
CBS' UNTITLED PAUL ATTANASIO PROJECT
  • David Castaneda (Sicario, Switched at Birth) has booked a series regular role on the drama pilot written by Paul Attanasio. He will play Bembe Medina, Chief Medina's son, a cop in Tijuana who works his beat with Yuni, his twin brother. 
CBS' ME, MYSELF AND I
  • Brian Unger (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) has joined the cast of the comedy pilot written by Dan Kopelman. He will play Ron, a commercial airline pilot and Alex's new stepfather. Although initially intimidating, he ultimately will become the guiding figure throughout Alex's life.
ABC's THE GOOD DOCTOR
  • Bates Motel star Freddie Highmore will play the lead role on the drama pilot written by David Shore. Also cast today is Nicholas Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars). Highmore will play Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with Savant syndrome, who is awkward at the best of times, not good with social interactions but possessed with an engaging honesty and directness. He has survived a troubled childhood to become a talented doctor. Gonzalez will play Dr. Neil Melendez, the boss of the surgical residents at the hospital.
NBC's REVERIE
  • Cold Case star Kathryn Morris has been cast on the drama pilot starring Sarah Shahi and Dennis Haysbert. She will play Monica Shaw, an official with the Department of Defense who has a vested interest in Alexis Barrett's (Jessica Lu) virtual reality project. Very concerned when she learns that some users have gone into comas after refusing to return to their own reality, Monica works with security chief Charlie Ventana (Haysbert) to come up with a way to do some damage control and save the program.
THE CW's DYNASTY
  • Robert Christopher Riley (Hit the Floor) has landed a series regular role on the drama pilot reboot of the primetime soap. He will play Culhane, the Carrington family's well-paid chauffeur. 
THE CW's VALOR
  • Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire, Secrets & Lies) is set for a series regular role on the drama pilot written by Kyle Jarrow. He will play Ian, Nora's on-again/off-again boyfriend, a West Point graduate who works as a Special Ops intelligence officer.
NBC's THE SACKETT SISTERS
  • Emmy winner Bradley Whitford (The West Wing, Transparent) has joined the cast of the comedy pilot starring Busy Philipps. He will play Henry Sackett.
THE CW's BLACK LIGHTNING
  • Hart of Dixie alum Cress Williams will star in the title role on the drama pilot written by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil. He will play Jefferson Pierce, who made a choice to hang up his suit and his secret identity years ago. With a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he'll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend - Black Lightning.
ABC's THE CROSSING
  • Sandrine Holt (House of Cards, MacGyver) has been cast as the female lead on the drama pilot written by Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie. She will play Emma Peralta, a federal customs agent who is all business. Her keen mind is always processing its surroundings, which allows her to perpetually exude control amongst chaos. Heavily skeptical of the refugees story and the concept of time travel, she nonetheless is sympathetic enough to find the truth due to her rough past as an immigrant herself.
ABC's UNTITLED MARC CHERRY PROJECT
  • Saamer Usmani (Reign) has booked the male lead on the drama pilot starring Reba McEntire. W. Earl Brown (Deadwood, Preacher) has also been cast today. Usmani will play Tag Fayad, a young FBI agent sent to Oxblood, Kentucky to help Ruby (McEntire) to solve a horrific crime. He is met with suspicion and hostility by the local populace. A brilliant man, he can be fairly snarky and disdainful to those he sees as intellectual inferiors. Brown will play Deputy Joe Paul, who works under Ruby and shares immense tension with Fayad.
THE CW's SEARCHERS
  • Alex McGregor (Of Kings and Prophets) has landed the female lead on the drama pilot written by Jason Rothenberg. She will play Fable Brooks, a rebellious, strong, smart and soulful free-spirit. She has never given up hope in the 10 years since her parents' disappearance. And now, she'll break every rule in the book to discover the truth.
FOX's THE RESIDENT
  • The Good Wife and Gilmore Girls star Matt Czuchry has joined the cast of the drama pilot written by Amy Holden Jones. He will play Conrad Hawkins, a cocky third-year resident at Kings County Hospital. 
ABC's HOUSEHOLD NAME
  • Timothy Omundson (Galavant, Psych) will co-star on the comedy pilot starring Carol Burnett. He will play Edward Von Glimpse, Vivian's (Burnett) gay best friend. He's her confidant, hype man and apologist - sometimes all within the span of a single sentence. He's droll with a dry wit and seen-it-all attitude, a throwback to a more civilized, elegant time.
ABC's UNTITLED PAUL WILLIAM DAVIES PROJECT
  • Hope Davis (Wayward Pines), Vondie Curtis-Hall (Daredevil) and Rege-Jean Page (Roots) have landed series regular roles on the drama pilot written by Paul William Davies. Davis will play Jill, a smart and savvy federal public defender who is the boss of all the newly minted public defenders and who makes it clear to them from the moment they get their cases that they've got an uphill climb. Curtis-Hall will play William Byrne, an intelligent, eloquent, formidable, seasoned and fair chief judge for the district court, who welcomes and swears in the newly minted prosecutors and public defenders. Page will play Leonard, an arrogant and animated new prosecutor who is taking his first case at the prestigious court.
NBC's FOR GOD AND COUNTRY
  • Hadi Tabbal (Madam Secretary) and Demetrius Grosse (Game of Silence) are set for series regular roles on the drama pilot starring Mike Vogel and Anne Heche. Tabbal will play Amir, who before joining Dalton's (Vogel) team spent nearly six years as a lone wolf penetration agent in ISIS, yet managed to retain his humanity during 72 months of horrors and bloodshed. Grosse will play Juice, the third member of ISA Special Operations Unit 7. The team's computer and communications expert and all-around tech badass, he is a lethal MacGyver.
NBC's UNTITLED WARREN LEIGHT PROJECT
  • Newcomers Paola Lazaro and Matthew James Thomas have been cast on the drama pilot written by Warren Leight. Lazaro will play Gloria, a triage nurse at Our Lady of Salvation Hospital. Thomas will play Dr. Sam, a young doctor at the hospital.
CBS' REAL LIFE
  • Rebecca Rittenhouse (Blood & Oil, The Mindy Project) has booked the female lead on the comedy pilot. She will play Nora, who is smart, creative, funny and refreshingly honest. She works at Kenny & Kit's Groovy Snacks in LA and starts dating Drew's business school roommate, but she can't stop thinking about how much fun she has with her Skype buddy, Drew.
THE CW's INSATIABLE
  • Erinn Westbrook (Awkward) and Michael Provost (Six) have joined the cast of the drama pilot starring Debby Ryan. Westbrook will play Azalea, a stunning, smart, confident and manipulative beauty queen who hires Bob to be her patient coach. Provost will play Brick, a seemingly typical high school jock who is a little more complicated underneath the surface.
CBS' PERFECT CITIZEN
  • Lenny Platt (Quantico, How to Get Away With Murder) has landed a series regular role on the drama pilot written by Craig Turk. He will play Felix, the self-proclaimed "Alpha Associate" at the firm. He is brilliant and he knows it.
FOX's THIN ICE
  • Trond Fausa (Lilyhammer) and Dan Gill (The Wedding Ringer) will co-star on the comedy pilot starring Bridgit Mendler. Faus will play Gunnar, a bit of a wild man who fled his homeland for the station in Antarctica after his heart was broken. Gill will play Pete, a medic who is something of a womanizer stationed in Antarctica after stints in Iraq and Afghanistan.
