CBS has given a straight-to-series order to original comedy series Young Sheldon, a spinoff of the hit comedy The Big Bang Theory, for the 2017-18 broadcast season.
Young Sheldon is a prequel to The Big Bang Theory that centers on Sheldon Cooper at the age of 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school. Unlike The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon will be shot as a single camera comedy.
Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) will play 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, with Zoe Perry (the real-life daughter of Laurie Metcalf) set as his mother, Mary. The cast will also feature Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jodan. Jim Parsons will narrative the series as Adult Sheldon.
Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons, Todd Spiewak and Jon Favreau will serve as executive producers, with Favreau set to direct the first episode. Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions will produce.
