Casting News - Alexis Bledel to Return to 'The Handmaid's Tale'; 'Shameless' Adds Jessica Szohr; Plus 5 More Updates!

ABC's Designated Survivor; CBS' Instinct; Epix's Graves; Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale; NBC's Law & Order: True Crime & Shades of Blue; and Showtime's Shameless.




EPIX's GRAVES
  • Joanna Sanchez (The League) has landed a recurring role on the comedy's upcoming second season. She will play Julia Martinez, the Graves' new housekeeper with a dry sense of humor and "been there, done that" attitude. Compared to her previous employers, the Graves' family drama is a walk in the park.
NBC's SHADES OF BLUE
  • Victor Turpin (Greenlight) has booked a recurring role on the drama's upcoming third season. He will play Enrique, a Colombian dirtbag and the son of a wealthy member of a drug cartel.
HULU's THE HANDMAID'S TALE
  • Alexis Bledel will return as a series regular on the drama's upcoming second season. She was billed as a series regular in the first season but only appeared in four of the ten episodes. As such, she qualified for the Guest Actress category at the Emmys. She plays Emily, a handmaid in Gilead also known first as Ofglen and then as Ofsteven. She is captured and brutalized first for her romance with another female and then for stealing a vehicle.
SHOWTIME's SHAMELESS
  • Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl, Twin Peaks) has been cast in a major recurring role on the dramedy's upcoming eighth season. She will play Nessa, a strong, tough and smart lesbian who is a tenant in Fiona's (Emmy Rossum) newly purchased apartment building. The two will develop a strong friendship.
NBC's LAW & ORDER: TRUE CRIME
  • James DuMont (Treme, Mosaic) has joined the cast of the upcoming anthology starring Edie Falco. He will play Brian Anderson, the older brother of the murdered matriarch Kitty Menendez. A man of Midwestern reserve, he attends a family memorial in large hotel suite despite having had a troubled relationship with his dead sister. He dismissed allegations made by the brothers' defense team that they had been abused by Kitty prior to her death.
ABC's DESIGNATED SURVIVOR
  • After appearing in a major recurring role in the first season, it was confirmed today that Virginia Madsen will not be returning to the drama for its upcoming second season. She played Kimble Hookstraten, a congresswoman who was first introduced as the other political party's designated survivor. She proved to be a foil to President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland). She was last seen accepting a job as Secretary of Education after initially going for Vice President.
CBS' INSTINCT
  • Sharon Leal (Supergirl) will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic. She will play a friend of Lizzie's (Novakovic) who has recently been promoted to be her boss in the NYPD. The original version of the character was played in the pilot by Khandi Alexander, but it has been re-conceived.
