OWN has given a series order to hourlong light drama Love Is _ created by husband-and-wife team Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil (Being Mary Jane, Black Lightning). The drama will premiere in 2018.
The series will draw inspiration from the Akils real-life relationship to tell the love story of a modern-day power couple.
The Akils will executive producers, with Mara Brock Akil serving as showrunner for the first season. Warner Horizon Television and Akil Productions produce.
"I've dreamed of working with the Akils," said Oprah Winfrey. "I've been a huge fan of their work since first viewing Girlfriends. They know just how to hit the cultural nerve to make you think and laugh at the same time."
