USA has given a straight-to-series order to original drama series American Rust based on the novel of the same name by Philipp Meyer. The drama will likely debut sometime in 2018
Set in a small Pennsylvania rust belt town, the drama follows the rise and fall of a crime-riddled community as seen through the eyes of a sheriff with a history of violence.
Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman (The Son) wrote the pilot with Meyer. David Gordon Green (Vice Principals) has signed on to direct the premiere. All four executive produce with Michael De Luca, Elisa Ellis and Courtney Conte. Elishia Holmes is a co-executive producer. Universal Cable Productions and Platform One Media will produce.
This is the second series adaptation of Meyer's work following AMC drama The Son starring Pierce Brosnan.
