In a huge move, the in-development Riverdale companion series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has now moved over to Netflix with a two-season series order. Each season will include 10 episodes.
The now untitled series reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft. The series finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.
Riverdale creator Roberto Aguiree-Sacasa wrote the premiere. He will executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and director Lee Toland Krieger. Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions produce.
The series was put into development in September 2017 at The CW. It heated up as a series of interest after Riverdale opened its second season in October to record ratings. Netflix holds the streaming rights to the series and is credited for helping the show grow its audience between seasons. Riverdale is now one of the strongest performing series on the network.
