Amazon has renewed its original drama series Bosch for a fifth season. Today's announcement also comes with the premiere date for the fourth season as well as series creator Eric Overmyer returning as showrunner for the new season.
The 10-episode fourth season will debut on the streaming service on Friday, April 13.
Based on Michael Connelly's best-selling novels, the new season opens on an attorney murdered on the eve of his civil rights trial against the LAPD. Bosch is assigned to lead a task force to solve the crime before the city erupts in a riot. Bosch must pursue every lead, even if it turns the spotlight back on his own department. One murder intertwines with another, and Bosch must reconcile his past to find a justice that has long eluded him.
The drama stars Titus Welliver, Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino, Madison Lintz and Lance Reddick.
Eric Overmyer developed the series and served as showrunner for the first three seasons. He stepped down from the role in order to serve as showrunner on the third season of Amazon's The Man in the High Castle. He remained an executive producer on Bosch, with Daniel Pyne succeeding him as showrunner for the fourth season. But now, Overmyer is leaving The Man in the High Castle after one season, with no immediate replacement. Overmyer and Pyne will serve as co-showrunners on the just announced fifth season.
Overmyer and Pyne executive produce with Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Henrik Pabst, Pieter Jan Brugge, John Mankiewicz, Jan David Frouman and Elle Johnson. Welliver is a producer. Amazon Studios, Fabrik Entertainment and Red Arrow Studios produce.
"As Amazon Prime Video's longest-running one-hour series, Bosch has long been a cornerstone of our scripted programming, and Prime members consistently clamor for more," said Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series, Amazon Studios. "We are excited to give them another season with Harry Bosch, Jerry Edgar, Grace Billets and the rest of the diverse characters that make up the Bosch universe."
