Jennifer Garner is returning to television! HBO has today given an eight-episode series order to the original comedy series Camping with Garner playing the lead role. Production will begin in the spring in Los Angeles.
Based on the British show of the same name, the series kicks off on Walt's 45th birthday, which was supposed to be a delightful weekend back to nature, at least according to his obsessively organized and aggressively controlling wife Kathryn (Garner). But when the camping trip gathers Kathryn's meek sister, holier than thou ex-best friend and a free-spirited Tagalong in one place, it becomes a weekend of tested marriages and woman on woman crime that won't soon be forgotten. Plus, bears.
Garner's Kathryn Siddell-Bauers is further described as a controlling L.A. mom who is far less cheerful than her Lululemons imply. She controls the proceedings with an iron grip until she's faced with a woman who undoes all her best laid plans. She is messy, tough, provocative and really, really fun.
Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner - the creative team behind HBO's successful comedy Girls - created the comedy - which is also being billed as a limited series. They executive produce with Julia Davis, Christine Langan and Ilene S. Landress. A Casual Romance and Baby Cow Productions produce.
"We love Jennifer's restraint and comedic timing, and we can't wait for the warmth and intelligence she'll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It's truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts," said Konner and Dunham.
Garner's casting marks her return to series regular television since she wrapped her five-season starring role on ABC's Alias in 2006.
