Freeform has confirmed today that its original comedy series Young & Hungry will be coming to an end with its fifth season. The comedy aired the first 10 episodes of Season 5 a year ago with the remaining 10 episodes being in limbo ever since. And now, those episodes finally have a premiere date.
The final 10 episodes of the fifth season will premiere on Wednesday, June 20 at 8/7c. The network has also announced today that it has put a Young & Hungry movie into development.
In the new episodes, Gabi and Josh are finally together and in love, now navigating their new status as a full-fledged couple. The rest of Josh's staff, Yolanda and Elliot, are grappling with the change in work dynamic with Gabi as the "woman of the house." Sofia begins to feel like a third wheel with the new couple and sets out on her own path to find love.
The comedy stars Emily Osment, Jonathan Sadowski, Aimee Carrero, Kym Whitley and Rex.
David Holden created the comedy. He executive produces with Ashley Tisdale, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Jessica Rhoades, John Ziffren, Caryn Lucas, David Hartle and Tony Carey. CBS Television Studios, Freeform Original Productions, The Tannenbaum Company, Waffle Toaster Productions, Blondie Girl Productions and Critical Content produce.
The extended hiatus has been fueled by speculation that the comedy had been cancelled by Freeform. With the final episodes already shot, the cast was released to take other jobs - with Emily Osment booking a recurring role on Netflix's upcoming comedy The Kominsky Method and the female lead in the CBS comedy pilot 25.
