After multiple attempts of landing a television adaptation, Netflix is nearing a series deal for the original drama series Locke & Key based on the graphic novel by Joe Hill. The project recently produced a pilot for Hulu which was not picked up to series. However, the order at Netflix would not be using that pilot moving forward.
After the gruesome murder of their father, three siblings move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them.
The Netflix version of the series will recast all of the lead roles. The cast for the Hulu pilot included Frances O'Connor, Nate Corddry, Jackson Robert Scott, Megan Charpentier, Jack Mulhern, Owen Teague, Samantha Mathis and Danny Glover.
The Hulu pilot was directed by Andy Muschietti. He will not direct the premiere for the Netflix series due to scheduling conflicts with the upcoming film It: Chapter Two. However, he will remain an executive producer on the project.
Joe Hill is writing the redeveloped adaptation, with Carlton Cuse set as the showrunner. They will executive produce with Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, Lindsey Springer, David Ozer and Ted Adams. IDW Entertainment and Carlton Cuse Productions produce.
