Netflix Gives Series Orders to 'Madam C.J. Walker' Starring Octavia Spencer and 'White Lines'

During its presentation at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, Netflix announced series orders for the limited series Madam C.J. Walker starring Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer and the drama White Lines.

Madam C.J. Walker - Details the untold and highly irreverent story of Sarah Breedlove (Spencer), a black hair care pioneer known as Madam C.J. Walker, and how she overcame hostile turn-of-the-century America, epic rivalries, tumultuous marriages and some trifling family to become America's first black, self-made female millionaire. Based on the book On Her Own Ground by A'Leila Bundles.

Nicole Asher wrote the premiere, which will be directed by Kasi Lemmons. Janine Sherman Barrois and Elle Johnson will serve as showrunners. All four executive produce with Spencer, LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Mark Holder and Christine Holder. SpringHill Entertainment and Zero Gravity will produce.

White Lines - When the body of a legendary Manchester DJ is discovered 20 years after his mysterious disappearance from Ibiza, his sister returns to the Spanish island to find out what happened. Her investigation will lead her through a thrilling world of dance music, super yachts, lies and cover-ups, forcing her to confront the darker sides of her own character in a place where people live life on the edge.

Alex Pina (Money Heist) created the drama and will serve as showrunner. He executive produces with Sharon Hughff and Cristina Lopez Ferraz. Left Bank Productions and Vancouver Media will produce.
