Jessi and Nick dip into her dad's stash of edibles, with mind-bending results. Andrew searches for the right moment to break up with Lola.
In 2018, it makes no sense to provide full-length reviews of each individual episode for shows released all at once on the streaming services. Sure, there are some shows out there that value the power of the episode. They do make a point in differentiating each episode to ensure it's not just one big slog to the finish. However, the ability to watch the entire season at one's own viewing pace has largely changed the way we consume and discuss these shows. So, some brief summary thoughts are really all that's actually necessary with these seasons. As such, here are my latest thoughts on the next episode of Netflix's Big Mouth.
Andrew has been tormented by the Shame Wizard for a couple of episodes now. It has made him act out in some surprising ways while reducing Maury to the embodiment of horniness. As such, it's been a powerful combination as both shame and horniness has been fueling his recent actions with Lola. He doesn't really like her. He is actually pretty intimidated by her. And yet, he is enticed by her as well because she is willing to indulge so many of his sexual interests as well. Moreover, it's actually a little sad to get a peak into Lola's life. She's left behind in an apartment that was staged by a realtor to sell and not live in. Moreover, it's clear that even her own mother loves Devin more than her. That's so tragic. And now, Andrew is choosing to only see Lola as the female embodiment of his father. That's an absolutely horrifying visual. The two of them agree on so much with the running joke about Two and a Half Men being consistently funny. However, it's still cruel of Andrew to break up with Lola right now. He is doing so immediately after getting sexual pleasure from her. It's a response turned on by the Shame Wizard. He is playing a very coy and crafty game with both Andrew and Maury. Of course, that also runs the risk of it being more about them than the woman who is hurt by all of this. Sure, it's still pretty embarrassing for Andrew in the end as well because he gets a broken wrist and sweatpants stuck around his ankles. It's still him standing in defiance of the Shame Wizard. That's what makes it a perfect time for the creature to switch his efforts over to Jessi. Right now, she thinks it's fun and no big deal to rebel by taking some of her father's marijuana edibles. She takes them with Nick. She absolutely peer pressures him into doing this. They both have some extreme reactions to them. Nick immediately becomes paranoid about everything. He is laughing alongside Jessi by the suggestion of their arms now being linked and being able to communicate telepathically with each other. But he is either in an unnerving situation because he sees things that aren't there or is blind to the real dangers around him. Missy's house is safe and Jay's dog isn't. To Nick though, the opposite is true. At least, he still has an older brother who is willing to look out for him and ensure that he gets home safely. His friends abandon him after he runs into Gina again. So, their friendship could be starting up once more. But all of this is much more devastating for Jessi. She was just looking to have a good time. She normalizes this substance and sees it as something that can only be positive. Again, it's because of the laze attitude her parents have towards weed. They have both taken part in it before. For her dad though, it's been an ongoing thing. And now, it's the thing that leads to him officially being kicked out of the house. So not only does Jessi now feel shame for depriving her father of what he really wanted. She actually views herself as the reason why her parents are no longer the couple they were twenty years ago. That mindset could take a dark turn very quickly as well to the point that even the Shame Wizard could be surprised by the results.
